Ali Şanver illustrates most favourable Turkish tax structures in regional meeting |

This month saw the inaugural Lex Mundi International Tax Practice Group Europe/Middle East/Africa meeting. Held in Amsterdam the meeting gathered leading Tax partners from the global network to discuss the local tax regimes, corporate migration and how to combat tax losses. Ideas were exchanged and knowledge shared by the 24 member firms representing 19 jurisdictions that attended the meeting.

Session 1: Current Tax Structures: Europe/ Middle East/ Africa and Asia/ Pacific
Session 2: Corporate Migration - Techniques and Tax Considerations
Session 3: How to Preserve Tax Losses and Any Other Tax Attributes During Turbulent Times
Ali Şanver represented Turkey, illustrating the most favourable tax structures across Europe and demonstrating the effects of double taxation treaties to which Turkey is a party. A focus point was the treatment of withholding tax under the different treaty provisions, and the impacts on dividend distribution, interest rates and capital gains.

Ahmed Pekin receives award for highest tax paying lawyer |

As Senior Partner of a successful corporate law firm, Ahmed Pekin is renowned for his status as a top taxpayer in Turkey. Over the years Mr. Pekin has featured in the top two taxpaying lawyers and 2008 was no different. Acknowledging his contribution to the Treasury's tax revenues, the President of the Tax Administration of Istanbul, Mehmet Koç, presented Mr. Pekin with an award.
