In a year that marked renewable energy as a sector in which to invest, Pekin & Pekin’s Corporate and M&A team, led by Ayça Sevimay, closed one of the most important energy deals of 2008. Cogentrix, a quasi-private equity strategic investment company with UK and US investors acquired 50% of the share capital of a group of Turkish renewable energy generation companies (composed of approximately 12 companies) for USD70mn, involving bidding and submitting applications for over 20 licenses. This deal represented the first stage of the joint venture, with the investment phases estimated to involve billions.
