Article 337/1 of the Execution and Bankruptcy Law (Law No. 2004) regarding the disciplinary imprisonment of individuals who fail to make "a declaration of assets" within the time period determined by law was cancelled on 16 April 2008 (effective as of 16 April 2009). Introduced in 2005, the Constitutional Court ruled that the Article was contrary to paragraph 8, Article 38 of the Constitution, which prohibits the deprivation of individuals' liberties on the grounds of their inability to fulfil a contractual obligation under specific conditions.
