Q1/2009 New nuclear energy regulations

Three regulations with respect to nuclear energy have been abolished:
i) The Regulation of Quality Assurance on Research and Evaluation of the Site Selection of Nuclear Energy Facilities (published in the Official Gazette dated 26 May 2002 and numbered 24766), effective as of 17 February 2009;
ii) The Regulation Regarding Preparation, Approval, Entry into Force and Amendment of Documents on Nuclear Security Series (published in Official Gazette dated 9 November 2002 and numbered 24931) effective as of 21 February 2009; and,
iii) The Regulation Regarding Preparation and Entry into Force of Security Handbooks Governing Security Principles in Nuclear Facilities (published in the Official Gazette dated 11 November 1984 and numbered 18572) effective as of 21 February 2009.

Within the sector, 12 regulations have been amended and one new regulation effected since November 2008 (although outside the scope of this Newsletter, we deemed it significant to emphasise this herein).

The definitions of distribution facility, supplier, cogeneration, international interconnection charter, ancillary services, ancillary services regulation and legal entities performing generation activities have been amended in most of these regulations.
